As anticipation builds for elbow's highly anticipated concert at Audley End Estate in Saffron Walden, Essex on Sunday, August 4th as part of Heritage Live 2024, organisers have unveiled two remarkable support acts set to grace the stage alongside the acclaimed multi-platinum-selling Manchester band.
First up, we have The WAEVE, an English band born from the musical minds of singer-songwriters and musicians Blur’s Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall. Formed in 2021, The WAEVE describes their music as "a liquid meeting of musical minds and talents. A powerful elixir of cinematic British folk-rock, post-punk, organic songwriting, and freefall jamming." Their eponymous debut album, released in 2023, has captivated audiences with its unique blend of influences ranging from Sandy Denny to Van der Graaf Generator.
Coxon and Elinor Dougall's musical journey began long before The WAEVE came into existence, however. Meeting initially in 2004 during a Pipettes gig in London, their paths crossed again in December 2020 during the Live for Beirut 2.0 benefit show, where their shared passion for music ignited a creative spark. Their collaboration blossomed into The WAEVE, a project infused with their shared Piscean sensibilities and complex feelings towards Britain.
Joining The WAEVE on stage is the enchanting Dana Gavanski. With a voice reminiscent of modern folk vocalists like Cate Le Bon and Jessica Pratt, Gavanski brings a fresh perspective to the world of pop music. Her latest album, Late Slap, released on Full Time Hobby, showcases fully formed arrangements that burst with life, joy, and whimsy. Drawing inspiration from British musical icons like Bowie, Eno, and Kate Bush, Gavanski's music offers a lush, quirky, and joyous journey through sound.
elbow, one of Britain's most cherished bands, recently scored a number one album in ‘AUDIO VERTIGO’. Over the past two decades, the Mancunians have dominated the charts with multiple number-one albums, notably winning the Mercury Prize in 2008 for 'The Seldom Seen Kid'. Their consistent critical acclaim includes receiving four consecutive 9/10 reviews from the NME for their first four records.
Now, with their tenth studio album, 'Audio Vertigo', recorded in 2023 at Migration Studios, Gloucestershire, and mixed at Blueprint Studios, Salford, elbow continues to push boundaries. Lead singer Guy Garvey describes the album as a departure from its predecessor, showcasing more direct and sonically varied compositions.
Known for their unforgettable live performances, elbow's upcoming show at Englefield Estate as part of Heritage Live 2024, promises to captivate audiences with both new material and anthemic hits from their extensive catalogue, such as 'One Day Like This' and 'Grounds for Divorce'.
